Ravinia Preview: August 9-11

The 5 Browns, Los Lonely Boys and Handel's Orlando.

This week’s  brings another eclectic mix of musicians, composers and orchestras to the forefront of Highland Park’s music scene.  


Guests will be treated to The 5 Browns trademark multiple piano arrangements. The group will be doing a piece written by one of the hottest new composers, Nico Muhly, who has worked with artists like Bjork and Phillip Glass, and has also composed multiple film scores including 2008’s The Reader. The 5 Browns will also perform Shostakovich’s most popular symphony, the jubilant Fifth.

The inspired mix of Mexican-Ameican rock and blues will be on display Wednesday night when Los Lonely Boys & Los Lobos take stage. These two prolific bands will have you dancing from the get-go.

The audience will be treated to the The Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra as they play along with the delightful fantasy epic Orlando.  Orlando follows our titular hero who fights for love and glory through a series of entangled love connections. The orchestra, led by Nicholas McGegan, who has won ovations at Ravinia for his interpretations of Bach and Vivaldi, will produce a stunning display of passion and emotion.
