Stalled Train Blocks Westleigh Road

A Union Pacific train stopped near the Westleigh Road crossing west of Route 41 blocked the gates from opening.

LAKE FOREST, IL — A stalled train blocked traffic in Lake Forest Wednesday, according to transportation officials. Just after 1 p.m., Lake County authorities said Westleigh Road has been blocked west of Route 41 in Lake Forest due to a stalled Union Pacific train just north of the crossing.

"It's up to Union Pacific to move their train," in order to traffic to be able to pass through, according to a Lake County Department of Transportation spokesperson.

A Union Pacific spokesperson said its train "experienced a minor mechanical" while at a signal immediately to the north of the crossing. "The train crew worked through the issue as quickly as possible" with dispatchers from the railroad's Omaha, Nebraska dispatching center.
