Swarthout Promoted to Parks and Recreation Director

Lifelong Lake Forest resident has worked for city for a quarter-century.

Sally Swarthout, current Superintendent of Recreation for the city of Lake Forest, has been promoted to Director of Parks and Recreation, the city announced Wednesday.

“I am very honored and excited at the same time to lead the Parks and Recreation department for The City of Lake Forest,” said Swarthout, who began working for the city on a part-time basis as an early childhood instructor and camp director in 1990. “It is a privilege to work in this community and I am very happy to continue to serve residents in my new position.”

City Manager Robert R. Kiely, Jr. said the administration is “pleased” to promote Swarthout.

“As Sally is a life-long resident and a respected staff member with long tenure at the City, we have great confidence in her ability as a leader and advocate for the community,” he said.

Swarthout has served the city as a program supervisor and manager in charge of early childhood education, lakefront facilities and lifetime activities.

Working with Lake County, she helped implement the Swimcast Model, a real-time prediction system that calculates water quality at the beach and also worked with the North Shore Sanitary District to relocate the tank to the south end of the beach.
