Vote By Mail In 2018 Lake County Primary Elections

The Lake County Clerk began accepting applications for mail-in ballots Wednesday. Here's how to register for vote-by-mail.

Applications for vote-by-mail ballots are being accepted in Lake County. Any registered voter can request a ballot be sent to their home – or to an alternate address – by submitting the application before March 15, according to Lake County Clerk Carla Wykoff.

Illinois 2018 primary election is March 20, and voters can choose to avoid the risk of having to brave winter weather on Election Day. With a vote-by-mail ballot, just "walk as far as your mailbox for your ballot and vote from the comfort of your own couch," Wykoff recommended.

Voters don't need to provide any special reasons to vote-by-mail, although they used to. Some of the most common reasons for the requests are when people are on vacation, spending the winter in warmer weather or attending school out of the county, according to the clerk's office.
