Whole Foods Has No Current Plans for Lake Forest Location

Disappointed in plan that fell through last July, city still seeks to fill business area near Amberly Woods subdivision.

Six months after plans fell through for a large shopping center development anchored by Whole Foods at a 10-acre site near the Amberley Woods subdivision in Lake Forest, there is still no indication the grocery chain will be making its way to the city anytime soon.

“While we still hope to some day have the opportunity to serve the Lake Forest community, there are no plans at this time for a future Lake Forest location,” Whole Foods spokeswoman Allison Phelps said in an e-mail to Pioneer Press.

City Manager Bob Kiely says plans remain to fill the site as soon as possible, including one that would include Whole Foods as an option.

“They are aggressively entertaining proposals from multiple development groups including bringing back Whole Foods,” Kiely said at a January meeting of the Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Chamber of Commerce. “There are no guarantees, but that might be one we see in 2015.”

It was William Shiner of the Shiner Group who pulled the plan in July following his decision not to meet city setback requirements.
