LAKE BLUFF, IL — Officers found four guns in a car driven by a drunk Wilmette man last month after investigating a report he was harassing his ex-partner in Lake Forest and Lake Bluff, according to police.

Michael E. McGlynn, 49, of the 1000 block of Linden Street, Wilmette, was arrested shortly before 4 p.m. on April 15 in the 600 block of Garfield Avenue in Lake Bluff, police said. He would spend more than two weeks at Lake County Jail before his release on bond.

McGlynn was charged with felony aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and misdemeanor possession of firearms without a firearm owners identification card, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a suspended license. He was also issued a citation for illegal transportation of alcohol, according to police reports and court records.

Police were told McGlynn had been sending harassing messages to a former spouse and had been seen parked outside his ex's workplace in Lake Forest earlier that day. About a half hour after his ex returned home, McGlynn showed up in their driveway in Lake Bluff.

Around 3:19 p.m., McGlynn's ex called 911 to report he appeared to be intoxicated and explained a report of harassment had been already filed with a Lake Forest detective, according to police. His ex reported having begun the process of getting an order of protection and noticing a bottle of vodka in McGlynn's coat during the 911 call. Arriving officers noticed his ex was holding a bottle of vodka with about a third remaining.

An officer reported McGlynn appeared "slightly disheveled," as he explained he had just come over to the home to "check on" a resident. When asked for his driver's license, McGlynn handed over a small plastic bag that contained a Wilmette Public Library card, insurance card and debit card but no identification or driver's license.

McGlynn stumbled and had to lean on his father's vehicle, a blue Lincoln MKZ, during the field sobriety test, police said. Officers described numerous signs that he was drunk and noticed his pupils indicated the use of narcotics. He was taken into custody and declined to provide a breath, blood or urine sample to police.

Officers taking an inventory of McGlynn's Lincoln before having it towed found four handguns in the trunk, police said. The guns included a Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum revolver, two Colt .38 revolvers and a 9mm Beretta semiautomatic pistol. The ownership of the weapons was not immediately clear.

McGlynn has not responded to a request for comment. The man who picked up a number listed for McGlynn hung up when contacted by a reporter.

Lake County court records show McGlynn has previously been found guilty of driving under the influence of alcohol, and his most recent criminal conviction in the county is for reckless conduct in Lake Forest. He received a sentence of one year probation, including a requirement he not drink alcohol, which ended in July 2017.

According to Lake County Sheriff's Office records, McGlynn posted the $5,000 cash portion of his bond on May 4. Court records show an emergency order of protection was issued against McGlynn on April 19. A hearing on a further restraining order is set for Thursday. He is due back in court in Waukegan on May 23.
