1 Injured When Amtrak Train Strikes Semi in Somonauk: Reports
WGN News is reporting that an Amtrak train hit an oversize-load-carrying semi Tuesday afternoon.
Update, 5:15 p.m. Tuesday -- An Amtrak train carrying 150 passengers reportedly clipped the tail of an oversized semi-trailer that was in the crossing.
WSPY-News reported that the trailer was a special wide load trailer hauling a large transformer from Minnesota to Effingham Illinois.

There are no life-threatening injuries. The semi driver, train crew and passengers walked away from the accident that happened late Tuesday afternoon around 3 p.m.. The train vs. semi accident is said to have happened at the intersection of Rt. 34 and Rt. 23.
WSPY said the one train passenger was taken to Valley West Community Hospital with non life threatening injuries.

The Amtrak train did not leave the track. The train was repaired and was getting ready to leave about an hour after the accident. The train was bound for Chicago from Emeryville, CA, near San Francisco, and carried 175 passengers.
Somonauk Police have put out a call to a local towing company for a 190,000-pound crane to help remove the crane, the radio station said.
