Chicago Cubs Charities Raises Over $330,000 in One Week with Events at Wrigley Field

"Pink Out and "Race to Wrigley" a Huge Success for Chicago Cubs Charities

Chicago Cubs are batting a thousand when it comes to charity.  In the last week, Chicago Cubs Charities successfully raised more than $330,000 in support of breast cancer awareness and the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.

On Wednesday, May 8th fans were invited to participate in “Pink Out” at
Wrigley Field presented by Advocate Health Care where each fan who bought a ticket to sit in the Budweiser Bleachers received a pink hat to help promote breast
cancer awareness and honor survivors.  Cubs’ players’ and coaches’ wives were on hand to pass out hats to fans.

Breast cancer survivors were included in game ceremonies such as the First Pitch,
National Anthem and 7th Inning Stretch.  The 50/50 raffle raised $8,700 to help fund mammograms for uninsured and underinsured women through Advocate Charitable Foundation.  In addition, pink touches were featured throughout the ballpark such as a temporary pink ribbon on the outfield wall, pink hats worn by the grounds crew and more.

On Saturday, May 11th, approximately 6,000 runners turned out for the 8th
Annual “Race to Wrigley” 5K Run presented by Athletico.  The race began at the corner of Clark and Addison with runners finishing through the stadium’s ground level concourse under the famed Wrigley Field Marquee.

Like in years past, participants were encouraged to fundraise for prizes which
included recognition in an on-field pre-game ceremony. The top three overall
fundraisers received an autographed official Cubs jersey and anyone having
raised over $1,000 ran a post-race victory lap around the warning track inside
Wrigley Field.  The top fundraising team honors went to Zakk Attakk with $6,975 and top individual fundraiser was Megan Carrier with $3,385.  Total fundraising for the event was approximately $65,000 with the race itself drawing more than $256,000.  Fans can continue to make donations until May 25 at www.racetowrigley.com.
