SLN Report: Oktoberfest on Southport Approved, Area Schools Present
Updates from the March meeting regarding the St. Alphonsus Oktoberfest planning committee's proposal to move Oktoberfest from Oakdale to Southport, thus closing Southport south of Wellington.
The following are the latest updates from the South Lakeview Neighbors.
The playlot on Ravenswood and Nelson is set to get a redo. The Chicago Park District refurbishes playlots that are 15 years old, which includes planting. The playlot at Wolfram and George has only been there for 13 years, so they won’t get anything done.
Four neighborhood schools presented information to the neighbors in attendance, including Agassiz, Burley, and Prescott Elementary, as well as Lakeview High School.

Oktoberfest
The St. Alphonsus Oktoberfest planning committee re-presented to neighbors to possibly close down Southport during the Oktoberfest weekend, which is September 27-29.
Oakdale will still be closed, except there will not be any food tents or music stages on the street. Those are moving to Southport. The vendor trucks will be parked on Oakdale, but only during festival hours.

City of Chicago ordinance for special events requires a 14-foot clearance for a fire lane. Chicago Special Events will be giving a 24-foot clearance, with vendors on either side of Southport.
A vote was taken of members that were present. Members voted 12-8 in favor of St. Alphonsus Oktoberfest moving to Southport, which is then going to be forwarded to Ald. Scott Waguespack.
