Burglars Steal From Victims of Lake View Fire

Residents were already devastated when a fire broke out on Friday and four were injured. What happened the next day was heartless.

CHICAGO, IL - Burglars saw a unique opportunity on the North Side over the weekend to rub it in to victims of a fire.

Residents of a Lake View apartment building that caught on fire Friday morning were already devastated when they were displaced from their home and four people were taken to the hospital with injuries.

Then, on Saturday, burglars broke into the boarded up building in the 3400 block of N. Janssen and took anything valuable that was left behind, according to Crime in Wrigleyville and Boystown.

The residents of the building were only given a few brief moments after the fire Friday to retrieve valuable items. Everything else was taken in the Saturday break-in. Police at the scene said the burglars forced their way through the back door on the second floor, burglarizing four of the six apartment units.

All four who suffered physical injuries during the fire Friday remain hospitalized. Two people saved themselves by jumping from windows on the third floor.
