Chicago-Area Man Disappears in Wisconsin River

A 21-year-old Chicago-area man disappeared in the Wisconsin River near the Wisconsin Dells on Saturday and is presumed drowned. On Sunday, police were using sonar to try to find his body.

Police say the man, who was fishing on a rock in the middle of the river, went under at about 7:15 p.m. in Columbia County in the Lower Dells near a dam while trying to swim to shore. Friends tried to rescue him but were unsuccessful. Divers were called in Saturday and today.

Pending notification of family, his name has not been released.
