Chicken Hut Manager Accused of Raping Employee in Basement

Prosecutors say Carlos Ortiz gave the 20-year-old victim several margaritas before the attack early Thursday morning.

CHICAGO, IL - The manager of the Chicken Hut restaurant in Lake View faces a criminal sexual assault charge after admitting to sexually assaulting a female employee in the basement of the business.

Prosecutors last week said Carlos Ortiz, 40, of Chicago admitted to drinking with the woman, getting her drunk and assaulting her in the early morning hours on Thursday, according to a DNAinfo Chicago report.

Ortiz, who has been a manager at the eatery at 3200 N. Broadway for 20 years, is accused of giving the 20-year-old victim several margaritas during a Wednesday night get together with other employees. After the other employees left, according to prosecutors, Ortiz took the woman to a local park, then returned to the restaurant, where the assault occurred in the basement.

Surveillance footage captured Ortiz trying to kiss and remove clothing from the woman. The alleged assault took place in an area not shown by the camera.

Ortiz’ bond has been set at $250,000.
