Englewood Man Accused of Wounding 2 in Buena Park Party Bus Shooting

Victor Haynes faces battery and gun charges after shots were fired during an argument Sunday.

CHICAGO, IL — An Englewood man faces felony charges after being accused of shooting and wounding two men during an argument over the weekend aboard a party bus in the Buena Park neighborhood, according to Chicago police.

Victor Haynes, 31, of the 400 block of West 65th Place, was charged with two felony counts of aggravated battery involving the discharge of a firearm and a single felony count of the unlawful use and possession of a weapon by a felon, police said in a statement Monday. He is currently being held without bail at Cook County Jail.

According to police, Haynes and two other men — one 33 years old, the other 38 years old — began arguing at about 1:53 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, while they were on a party bus in the 500 block of West Irving Park Drive. The dispute escalated, and Haynes allegedly pulled out a handgun and opened fire, police said.

During the shooting, the 33-year-old man was hit in the chest, and the 38-year-old man was wounded in the head. The victim with the chest wound was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in stable condition, and the man shot in the head was sent to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition.

Haynes — who was apprehended in the 3500 block of North Lake Shore Drive shortly after fleeing the scene — also was injured in the shooting, police said. He received what was believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his left hand.
