Giardiniera a Foreign Concept to GOP Presidential Candidate John Kasich

Few people notice as campaign trail brings the Ohio governor to Portillo's in downtown Chicago on Tuesday.

John Kasich, the Ohio governor seeking the Republican presidential nomination, came to a downtown Chicago Portillo’s on Tuesday for lunch. He downed a mustard-laden hot dog and an Italian sausage.

Kasich, who dined with Portillo’s CEO Richard J. Portillo, had no idea what giardiniera is.

“All I know is this is an amazing place. I don’t know what that is,” he told a reporter who asked if he wanted some.

Kasich is a back-of-the-pack contender in the crowded GOP field.
