Man Dies After Divers Pull Him From Lake Michigan; 2nd Lake Death In A Day
A 2nd man also was rescued by Chicago Fire Department divers Tuesday, but he walked away unharmed.

CHICAGO, IL — Divers pulled a man, 23, from Lake Michigan near Montrose Harbor on Tuesday, but he was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, according to the Chicago Fire Department. The victim had been in the water with another man when he began having trouble, the Chicago Tribune reports. The other man, also in his 20s, was able to get land under his own power, and fire department officials told the Tribune he walked away unhurt.

Fire department scuba divers had been called to the harbor before 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, for a possible water rescue, the department said. Emergency crews were able to rescue the two men after about a half hour. The victim was taken in critical condition to Weiss Memorial Hospital, where he later died, the Tribune reports.

The unnamed man was the second Lake Michigan death Tuesday. Earlier in the day, an unnamed girl who was either 12 or 13 was pulled from the water near 7600 North Avenue in the Rogers Park neighborhood. She was taken to Evanston's Presence Saint Francis Hospital in critical condition, and she was later pronounced dead.
