'Nuts on Clark' Burglarized Twice in As Many Weeks

Both times thieves made off with the cash register, computers and were out the back door, owner says.

CHICAGO, IL - The world-famous gourmet popcorn shop known to Chicago Cubs' fans near and far has been burglarized. Twice.

NBC-Chicago and others reported Wednesday that the “Nuts on Clark” shop at 3830 N. Clark St. in Wrigleyville was broken into around 1 a.m. The thieves made off with the cash register and a laptop.

The store's cash register also went missing a week before on Tuesday, according to Crime in Wrigleyville and Boystown. That break-in took place at 10:30 p.m., when police responded to an alarm and found the store's back door open.

The thieves came in through a vent and "took the register, a couple computers and were out the back door," Estelle Kenney, owner, told ABC-Chicago.

She also said a security upgrade that followed the first break-in didn't do anything to prevent another burglary.

"I want to know why the big alarm sound didn't go off," Kenney said.
