Robbers Force Elderly Woman To Drive To Bank, Withdraw Money

Police were called to a home in Lake View after an 81-year-old woman told a family member that robbers forced her to withdraw money.

CHICAGO, IL — An 81-year-old woman was the victim of a robbery on the city's North Side Saturday afternoon, police said. Two people approached the woman in the 1600 block of North Clybourn Avenue around 12:30 and struck up a friendly conversation, police said. The suspects asked for the woman's help, and when they got into her car, one of them told her he was armed, according to police.

He demanded that she drive about a mile to a bank in the 3200 block of North Lincoln Avenue, police said. The robbers waited outside while the woman went into the bank and withdrew money, and when she gave the man cash, both suspects ran away, police said.

Police were called to a home in the 1400 block of West Barry Avenue in Lake View around 7 p.m. after the victim told a family member, police said.

No injuries were reported. No one was in custody and Area North Detectives are investigating the robbery.
