Shootout In Uptown Leaves Four Wounded

Another gang shooting happened Wednesday night in Uptown, police said.

CHICAGO, IL — Four people were shot in the city's Uptown neighborhood Wednesday night, police said. Two men were standing near Clifton Street and Wilson Avenue around 8:15 p.m., when an SUV rolled up. Police said at least two people got out of the vehicle and shot at the men.

One of the victims fell to the ground in the 1100 block of West Wilson Avenue, and the other ran away, police said. Someone fired back at the suspects who got out of the SUV, and they got back in the vehicle and drove off, police said.

Four people were wounded in the shootout, and one was listed in serious condition. Two people were taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital by Fire Department personnel, and two others drove to the hospital.

Ald. James Cappleman said he's been working with police and local businesses to curb gang violence in Uptown.

"There are some historical gang problems in this area," Deputy Chief Al Nagode told the Chicago Tribune. "We have been working really hard in this area to tamp that down. We believe that this was a targeted shooting and not a random act. The subject came here specifically looking for someone."
