Teen Charged After Bringing Gun To Lake View School

After sending threatening text messages, the teen showed a gun to students on the North Side, police said.

CHICAGO, IL — A 17-year-old boy has been charged with possession of a weapon after he brought a gun to a school in the city's Lake View neighborhood last Wednesday, police said. The teen sent a text to a 16-year-old girl threatening to bring the gun to the school, according to police. Then, at about 3 p.m., the boy brought the gun to the school in the 2900 block of North Hoyne Avenue and showed it to students, police said.

The Area North Gang School Safety Team and school security found the boy with the gun on him in the 3100 block of North Levitt, according to police. The boy was taken into custody and charged with one felony count of possession for carrying a concealed weapon and one misdemeanor count of possession of ammunition.

He is scheduled to appear in Central Bond Court Tuesday.
