Woman Choked, Sexually Assaulted In Lake View

Police said a suspect followed the woman into her apartment complex.

CHICAGO, IL — Police have issued a community alert warning of a sexual assault in Lake View Thursday night. The attack happened at an apartment complex in the 3900 block of North Fremont Street around 9 p.m., police said. The attacker followed a 24-year-old woman into her building, according to police.

The man allegedly grabbed the victim from behind and began choking her with both arms, police said. The woman almost lost consciousness, and the offender then allegedly reached down her pants and sexually assaulted her, according to police. He then stole her wallet, phone and keys and took off, police said.

The description of the woman's attacker is limited — he's described as a 6-foot-2 black man between 20 and 30 years old with short curly hair and a dark complexion, police said. He was wearing all black at the time of the attack, police said.

No one was in custody. Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call Area North detectives at (312)744-8261.
