Alleged Robber Shot at Wauconda Drug Store

Man tries to rob drugs from pharmacy and gets shot by pharmacist.

A man who tried to rob a Wauconda pharmacy is now struggling for his life at Condell Hospital in Libertyville.

Wauconda Police responded to a 9-1-1 call for a robbery in progress at 1:49 p.m. today, at Wauconda Pharmacy, 222 S. Main St., Wauconda, according to a press release from the Wauconda Police Department.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the alleged offender lying near the front entrance with a gunshot wound in his side, according to police reports.
The police investigation determined that the offender, believed to be Guy Michael Conti, 31, unknown address, forced his way into the pharmacist’s work area and demanded a large quantity of drugs.

He was wearing a ski mask and armed with a large knife. After surrendering the drugs, the pharmacist and a technician confronted the offender and overpowered him. The pharmacist ordered him to stop and surrender.

However, the offender broke free and made threatening advances to the pharmacist and technician. At that time, the pharmacist fired once and struck the offender, according to Wauconda Police. The pharmacist owned the weapon legally and is a registered gun owner.

Several employees and two customers were in the store at the time, but none were hurt. The offender was taken to Condell Hospital with life threatening injuries and was in surgery as of the time of the press release, at 5:12 p.m.

Police believe the offender is from Indiana and Arkansas and that he had friends in the Wauconda area. They are still reviewing the videotape that captured the scene.
