Cheerleader Wore Uniform At Ela Vernon Township High School

This week's "Bringing Back the Past" feature shows off a cheerleader uniform donated to the Ela Historical Society by a Lake Zurich resident.

The year was 1953 and Elizabeth "Libby" Smith cheered on her high school's sports teams as a cheerleader.

Smith's high school yearbook includes pictures of her and her fellow cheerleaders in their blue cordouroy uniforms featuring "EV" patches. The "EV" stood for Ela Vernon Township High School, the predecessor of Lake Zurich High School.

Smith, whose last name is now Maxwell, recently donated her cheerleader uniform to the Ela Historical Society.
