The Village Tavern Celebrates its 5th Annual Oktoberfest

Long Grove, IL – As the leaves turn golden shades of amber and certain crispness fills the air, Fall has undeniably arrived.  The leaves aren’t the only things changing in the historic village of Long Grove, however, as excited new business owners and townspeople eagerly anticipate The Village Tavern’s annual Oktoberfest tradition.  A natural fit for a town of German heritage, owners Chip and Mary Ann Ullrich kick off the Oktoberfest fun Friday, September 21 at 7:00pm with the traditional tapping of the ceremonial wooden keg.  This signature event will take place at Illinois’ oldest restaurant/tavern, The Village Tavern.

Once the ceremonial keg is tapped, the German-themed fun begins!  Every weekend through mid-October The Village Tavern will have an outdoor beer tent, live German music from 1pm to 5 pm, fun and friendly staff in German costumes and of course a full line up of signature Oktoberfest beers.  There’s fun for the whole family including free hayrides throughout historic Long Grove.  Additionally, the tavern hosts a farmer’s market every Sunday from 8am to 1pm.

“This is my family’s 50th year owning the Village Tavern and we couldn’t be happier to celebrate another successful year in this wonderful town”, said Chip Ullrich, Owner of The Village Tavern.  “Long Grove is a town that is very proud of its German heritage and as an establishment that has been around here since 1847, Mary Ann and I take great pleasure in leading the Oktoberfest celebration.”

About The Village Tavern

The Village Tavern has been in continuous operation since 1847. This family-owned restaurant, in classic roadhouse style, has been a favorite “watering hole” for generations. A spacious dining room and antique bar area preserve the establishment’s rustic authenticity. Especially popular is the massive 35-foot mahogany bar, which survived Chicago’s “Great McCormick Place Fire” in the 1960’s. The warm and friendly “pub” atmosphere of this classic restaurant attracts locals and tourists alike.
