The knowledge necessary to render potentially life-saving aid when every second counts is available on a regular basis at both Lake County Family YMCA facilities. The next class at Central Lake YMCA, 700 Lakeview Parkway in Vernon Hills, will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Note: Classes at Central Lake YMCA normally are held on the last Saturday of the month. They will revert to that schedule after Jan. 1.
American Red Cross-certified instructors teach the basic techniques of adult, child and infant CPR as well as first aid. In addition, participants will learn how to use an AED (automatic external defibrillator) and how to aid a person who is choking.
A course work manual is provided for this class, which is approved by the Emergency Medical Services Authority and also meets day-care licensing requirements. Participants who pass the final exam will receive a two-year CPR certification.

Registration must be completed at least two weeks before each class, and there is a $50 fee that likely will increase next year. To register for this program, or for more information, call (847) 367-6797 or visit the Welcome Center at either Lake County Family YMCA facility.
