Girl Scout Cooks Up Award-Winning Project

Lake Zurich High School student earns Gold Award for teaching cooking, donating food to Emmaus House.

This week's Whiz Kid is Bianca Stodden, Girl Scout and Lake Zurich High School student, who recently received the highest honor given by the Girl Scouts, the Gold Award.

Bianca has a passion  for cooking. She earned the honor by completing a project in which she taught cooking classes to younger students and fellow Girl Scouts. The food prepared by Bianca and the class participants was donated to Emmaus House.

Additionally, Bianca served the food to people at the Feb. 20 Emmaus House Community Dinner. The menu was prepared within the guidelines of Emmaus House and provided according to its schedule.

Bianca planned the classes and event four months in advance. To conclude her project, she attended the dinner with her grandmother.

"Bianca has put in many work hours on this project," said Laura Zickuhr, who volunteers for the Ela 55 Plus and Emmaus House programs.
