Illinois' May Unemployment Rates by City, County and Metro Area

See how your town's jobless picture compares to one year ago.

The Illinois Department of Employment Security on Thursday released the metro and local unemployment report for May.

While jobless rates fell again in each metro area, IDES Director Jeff Mays said in a statement only some have returned to pre-recession employment numbers.

“Three metro areas in the northeast region of the state have reached pre-recession employment levels, 11 metro areas continue to fall short,” Mays said. “The need for a full statewide recovery remains.”

Preliminary findings show 9,200 jobs were gained in May, and April’s report was revised from 4,800 jobs added to 5,400.
