Local Runners Headed to State

The state boys and girls cross-country meet will be held on Nov. 9 at Detweiller Park in Peoria.

The Lake Zurich girls and boys cross-country teams will be headed to state after faring well at the Class 3A Schaumburg sectional over the weekend. 

The boys placed fourth overall at the sectional and were led by freshman Matt Pereira who finished in sixth place with a time of 15:30, according to the Illinois High School Association website. 

Others on the Lake Zurich team that will compete at state include: senior Will Llanos, who finished in 24th place at the sectional meet with a time of 15:53; senior Dave Brown, who finished in 26th place with a time of 15:55; senior Austin Kuehr, who finished in 39th place with a time of 16:11; senior Matt Reninger, who finished in 62nd place with a time of 16:30; junior Justin Shim who finished in 76th place with a time of 16:39; and sophomore Matt Milner, who finished in 105th place with a time of 17:03, according to the IHSA

The Lake Zurich girls cross-country earned a trip to state with a fifth-place team finish at the Schaumburg sectional. The team was lead by senior Meaghan Gelinas who finished in sixth place with a time of 18:36, according to the IHSA results page. 

The following runners will also be headed to state: sophomore Kristie Houghton , who finished in 16th place at the sectional with a time of 18:38; junior Katie Fabbrini, who finished in 33rd place with a time of 19:05; junior Nicole Syverson, who finished in 36th place with a time of 19:08; junior Laura McNair, who finished in 47th place with a time of 19:18; freshman Jemma Kim, who finished in 75th place with a time of 19:47; and freshman Maryjane Koza, who finished in 76th place with a time of 19:52.

The state boys and girls cross-country meet will be held on Nov. 9 at Detweiller Park in Peoria.
