Local Runners Headed to State

The state boys and girls cross-country meet will be held on Nov. 9 at Detweiller Park in Peoria.

The Lake Zurich girls and boys cross-country teams will be headed to state after faring well at theΒ Class 3A Schaumburg sectionalΒ over the weekend.Β 

The boysΒ placed fourth overallΒ at the sectional and were led by freshmanΒ Matt Pereira who finished in sixth place with a time ofΒ 15:30, according to the Illinois High School Association website.Β 

Others on the Lake Zurich team that will compete at state include: seniorΒ Will Llanos, who finished in 24th place at the sectional meet with a time of 15:53; seniorΒ Dave Brown, who finished in 26th place with a time ofΒ 15:55; seniorΒ Austin Kuehr, whoΒ finished in 39th place with a time ofΒ 16:11; seniorΒ Matt Reninger, who finished in 62nd place with a time ofΒ 16:30; juniorΒ Justin Shim who finished in 76th place with a time ofΒ 16:39; and sophomoreΒ Matt Milner, who finished in 105th place with a time ofΒ 17:03, according to the IHSA.Β 

The Lake Zurich girls cross-country earned a trip to state with a fifth-place team finish at the Schaumburg sectional. The team was lead by senior Meaghan Gelinas who finished in sixth place with a time of 18:36, according to the IHSA results page.Β 

The following runners will also be headed to state: sophomoreΒ Kristie Houghton , who finished in 16th place at the sectional with a time ofΒ 18:38; juniorΒ Katie Fabbrini, who finished in 33rd place with a time ofΒ 19:05; juniorΒ Nicole Syverson, who finished in 36th place with a time ofΒ 19:08; juniorΒ Laura McNair, who finished in 47th place with a time ofΒ 19:18; freshmanΒ Jemma Kim, who finished in 75th place with a time ofΒ 19:47; and freshmanΒ Maryjane Koza, who finished in 76th place with a time ofΒ 19:52.
