Playground, Parking Lot Resurfacing Among District 95 Summer Projects

Lake Zurich High School's track will be resurfaced and trouble spots throughout District 95 will be repaved or resurfaced.

The Board of Education unanimously approved four summer work projects totaling $435,362 at their May 26 meeting.

The four projects include: replacing the ceiling at Seth Paine Elementary; resurfacing, replacing, grading or patching pavement at various locations throughout the district; pavement maintenance oversight; and track resurfacing at Lake Zurich High School.

  • Seth Paine Ceiling Replacement - $71,275 awarded to State Line Construction;
  • Pavement Maintenance - $279,946.60 awarded to Chicagoland Paving;
  • Pavement Maintenance Oversight - $22,240 awarded to Gewalt Hamilton; and
  • Track Resurfacing - $61,900 awarded to Track Surfaces.

“I’m good with these improvements,” said John Kropf, board of education vice president.

The work at Seth Paine Elementary will include removing and replacing interlocking ceiling tiles and lights in corridors 100 and 200 and rooms 110-112.

Pavement maintenance encompasses six buildings throughout the district, including: Resurfacing the existing parking lot at the Administration Center; regrading and resurfacing the roadway and hard surface playground at Spencer Loomis; adding required Americans with Disabilities Act access to the playground, and removal and resurfacing of the hard play area, at Sarah Adams; resurfacing the northwest corner of the staff parking lot at May Whitney; replacing the sidewalk between Isaac Fox and Middle School South; and patching and re-striping the parking lot at Seth Paine.

Gewalt Hamilton, a civil engineering company has been hired to oversee the paving and resurfacing projects.

“We are going to minimize problems,” explained Leo Morand of Gewalt Hamilton.

“They (Gewalt Hamilton) have the experience in coordinating projects, keeping track of quantities, on-sight crew and weekly reports,” said Fred Schuster, RuckPate Architecture.

The track located within LZHS’s stadium will be resurfaced from June 20 to July 20, “depending on the weather,” said Lyle Erstad, facilities and grounds director.

 “We’ve coordinated this with summer camps, summer school, and with bus rerouting and drop offs,” said District 95 Superintendent Michael J. Egan.

 All projects are scheduled to be done by the time school resumes in August.
