Police Blotter: Numerous Traffic Arrests as Motorists Drive Without a License

These incidents were among the official reports of the Lake Zurich Police Department. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that decision.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY                                               

Police received a report that someone scratched the rear trunk lid of a vehicle with a sharp object while it was parked in the 800 block of S. Rand Road, Aug. 5. The estimated damage is unknown at this time.  This matter is pending investigation. 

Also on Aug. 5, there was a report of punctured tires on a vehicle while it was parked in the 200 block of S. Buesching Road.  The estimated damage is valued at $400.  This matter is pending investigation.

TRAFFIC ARREST (NO VALID)                                 

Claudia I. Torres, 28, who resides at 230 Harvey Street in Elgin, was arrested for driving with no valid driver’s license on Ela Road at Cuba Road, at 12:49 a.m., Aug. 6..  Torres was stopped for improper lane usage.  Torres was charged with Improper Lane Usage and Driving with No Valid Driver’s License.  Torres was issued a Mundelein court date of Sept. 7 and released on a $1,500 personal recognizance bond.

BURGLARY                                        

A person reported that between Aug. 3 and Aug. 4, unknown person(s) attempted to steal a gasoline powered generator from inside their building in the 800 block of South Rand Road.  No damage was noted and nothing else appears to be missing.  Further action pending.

 

TRAFFIC ARREST/DRVING WHILE LICENSE SUSPENDED

On Aug. 4, at 5:30 p.m.,  Torres, Juan P., 32, 201 S. Buesching Rd. #307, Lake Zurich was arrested for DWLS at 201 S. Buesching Road.  Officers were at Liberty Lake Apartments conducting a follow-up investigation on another matter.  They observed Torres pulling into the parking lot, having prior knowledge that he has a suspended driver’s license.  He was arrested, and cited for Driving While Driver’s License Suspended.  He was released on a $1,500 Personal Recognizance Bond, pending an appearance in Mundelein Branch Court on Sept. 7

On Aug. 3, at 11:36 a.m., Juan Jose Pinguil-Cazho, 28, who resides at 3525 W. Melrose Street, was arrested for Driving While License Suspended at Cuba Road and Chasewood Road.  Mr. Pinquil-Cazho was stopped for speeding.  Pinquil was arrested and processed at LZPD.  He was issued citations for speeding and driving while license suspended.  He was released after signing a $1500 personal recognizance bond.  A court date was set for Sept. 7 in Mundelein Branch Court. 

On Aug. 2, at 4:01 p.m., Michael T. Randall, 25, who resides at 8022 South Paxton Street in Chicago, was arrested for driving while driver’s license is suspended on S. Rand Road at June Terrace.  Randall was stopped for no rear registration.  Randall was charged with No Rear Registration Plate, No Valid Registration, Operation of an Uninsured Motor Vehicle and Driving While Driver’s License is Suspended.  Randall was issued a Mundelein court date of Sept. 7 and released on a $2,000 personal recognizance bond. 

 

On Aug. 1, at 9:35 a.m., Douglas D. Kirk, 43, who resides at 688 Laurel Avenue in Wauconda, was arrested for driving while driver’s license is suspended in the 1000 block of S. Rand Road.  Kirk was stopped for unlawful use of an electronic communication device.  Kirk was charged with Unlawful Use of an electronic Communication Device and Driving While Driver’s License is Suspended.  Kirk was issued a Mundelein court date of Sept. 7 and released on a $1,500 personal recognizance bond. 

On July 31, at 9:26 p.m., Mitchell S. Rotondo, 23, who resides at 6244 N. Harlem Avenue in Chicago, was arrested for driving while driver’s license is suspended in the 400 block of Ela Road.  A random registration check indicated the registration was suspended.  Rotondo was charged with Registration Suspended for Non Insurance and Driving While Driver’s License is Suspended.  Rotondo was issued a Mundelein court date of Sept. 7 and released on a $3,000 personal recognizance bond. 

On July 31, at 10:21 p.m.,  Crystal V. Zeis, 32, who resides at 248 Shady Lane in North Barrington, was arrested for driving while driver’s license is suspended on Route 12 at Miller Road.  Zeis was stopped for expired registration.  Zeis was charged with Expired Registration, Operation of an Uninsured Motor Vehicle and Driving While Driver’s License is Suspended.  Zeis was issued a Mundelein court date of Sept. 7 and released on a $2,000 personal recognizance bond. 

On July 30, at 5:47 p.m., Leroy W. Luce, 70, 3 Brighton Court, Lake Zurich, IL  was arrested for DWLS subsequent to being stopped for failure to wear seatbelt in the area of Quentin and Ensell Road.  Luce was charged with DWLS, failure to wear seatbelt, and no insurance. Luce was released on a $2,000 personal recognizance bond pending court in Mundelein Sept. 9.

 

TRAFFIC ARREST/DRIVING WHILE LICENSE REVOKED             

On Aug. 1, at 11:09 a.m., Patrick L. Murphy, 54, who resides at 8032 New England Avenue in Burbank, was arrested for driving while driver’s license is revoked on Route 12 at Paulus Park.  Murphy was stopped for failure to wear safety belt.  Murphy was charged with Failure to Wear Safety Belt and Driving While Driver’s License is Revoked.  Murphy was issued a Mundelein court date of Sept. 7 and released on a $1,500 personal recognizance bond.  

TRAFFIC ARREST / UNLAWFUL USE OF WEAPON

Eric W. Cwiertnia, 41, 1002 Heartwood Lane, Lake Zurich,  was arrested for DWLS subsequent to a traffic stop in the 200 block of South Rand Road, at 7:59 p.m., July 30.   Cwiertnis was stopped for no valid registration.  Cwiertnia was charged with DWLS, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (pipe), Unlawful Use of Weapons (throwing star), No Insurance, No Valid Registration and Failure to Secure Child in Seat Belt. Cwiertnia was released on a $2,000 personal recognizance bond pending court in Waukegan on Aug. 27.

 

WARRANT SERVICE-LARCENY

On July 30, at 10:40 a.m., Jeffrey T. Nowak, 45, 83 North Lane, Lake Zurich, was arrested on a warrant at 83 North Lane.  Warrant issued by Arlington Heights Police Department for larceny, warrant #W9003283, bond set at $100,000 (10% applies).  Nowak was unable to post the required bond and was turned over to the Arlington Heights Police.
