Police Investigating Suspicious Package at Lake Zurich High

Cmdr. David Bradstreet said police were called to the scene at 5:59 a.m. after a report of a "suspicious briefcase-type package" near the upper lot of the high school. Police officials summoned a bomb squad from the Waukegan Fire Department to the scene.

Fire Chief Dave Wheelock said the was called to the scene, where they remain in a supporting role.

Students who are arriving at the high school for classes are being gathered in the cafeteria, which is far from the location of the package, said Jean Malek, director of communications and community relations for .

"We are in an incident command structure," Malek said, adding that the district is taking direction from public safety officials. She's unsure when classes will resume at the high school.

"It's going to be a wait-and-see, depending on when we get the all-clear," said Malek.
