Seth Paine Kids Take Firefighter Challenge

Lake Zurich students from Seth Paine and Isaac Fox schools raised more than $3,000 for the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance burn camp, I Am Me, and got treated to games and ice cream.

Lake Zurich students learned a little about putting out fires and rescue this past week as firefighters from the visited and put on a fireighter challenge.

The kids got to slide down a fire pole, drag a dummy and fire hose and spray water at an imaginary fire. Afterwards, they were treated with ice cream from Culvers.

Fire Chief David Wheelock said and students raise money annually for the I Am Me burn camp, a program of the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance (IFSA). This year the students raised about $3,200.

Burn Camp allows burn survivors to share their common experiences while being able to play and not feel self conscious about their scars. The benefits to the campers -- physical, psychological, and emotional -- have been enough to inspire a long list of eager volunteers and contributors, according to the IFSA website.
