Wauconda Area Library is hosting Shakespeare's First Folio Programs!

In honor of the First Folio, your Wauconda Area Library is hosting an exciting selection of programming and events!

To mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C., is sending a First Folio exhibition to only one institution in each state in the United States. The Lake County Discovery Museum in Wauconda has been selected as the only institution in Illinois that will host First Folio! The Book That Gave Us Shakespeare, a national traveling exhibition of an original edition of the First Folio of Shakespeare. The Wauconda Area Library is proud to have played a role in supporting the museum’s efforts to be selected as the Illinois venue for the First Folio! exhibition. In honor of this, your Wauconda Area Library is hosting an exciting selection of programing and events!

Celebrating the Bard, it’s all about Shakespeare on this festive day of celebration, Saturday February 6th starting at 11:30am – fun for all ages! Featuring the Wauconda High School Madrigal Singers, the Bard of Avon a performance from Shakespeare himself, and of course, Falconry! On February 1st, Andrea Mays author of the Millionaire and the Bard, will be on hand at the Wauconda High School Auditorium at 7pm. The Millionaire and the Bard tells the miraculous and romantic story of the making of Shakespeare’s First Folio and of the American industrialist whose thrilling pursuit of the book became a lifelong obsession. Mays’ riveting narrative is part love story, part suspenseful page-turner, and an illuminating expose on the Gilded Age. Books will be available for purchase and signing. This program is being offered in partnership with Ela Area Library and the Lake County Discovery Museum.

Join us for an evening of love stories and laughter at Shakespeare, Not Stirred: An Evening of Comedy, Love and Laughter as performed by the Northern Illinois First Folio Theater Ensemble at Middleton’s on Main on February 26th. Special note: Registration is required for this event! Midwinter Fairy Party (K-2nd Grade) special party filled with enchanting games and activities on February 12th starting at 1pm. LEGO Building Challenge, on February 15th from 10am-2pm, learn about the physical forces at work in these simple and complex machines.
