It might seem unfathomable to you to think that many households right here, right now struggle to keep inventory on certain basic needs: cleaning products, personal care items, and paper products.

I have often written about life blows. Situations, mishaps, bad fortune, minimum pay, multiple mouths to feed. When one is living paycheck to paycheck and a paycheck is less than the last choices have to be made. Difficult choices involving basic needs.

Some receive assistance: state assistance (SNAP/Link), WIC, Lemont Food Pantry Assistance). It is very difficult to receive for many who need it, contrary to what you might hear or believe. If they are granted assistance no cleaning products, paper products or personal care products can be purchased, the assistance is for food only.

On Saturday December 19th we will meet at the Lemont Township Office (1115 Warner Ave- behind Chipain’s) and create Care Boxes filled with basic needs: shampoo, soaps, deodorant, laundry detergent, toilet paper, Lysol wipes/spray, etc. If you are interested in contributing to this outreach you can bring donations to the bins in the Lemont Township Office lobby, Lemont Police Dept lobby, US Bank Lobby, or Starbucks by Friday December 18th. Or join us on Saturday and bring the donations with you at 9am on Saturday to the Lemont Township Office.

On Christmas Day we will arrive at the door step of homes that are in financial, physical, and emotional struggle. We will extend our arms filled with a fully cooked Christmas Dinner and a Care Box filled with these items proving much relief to every person in that house. A gift that some would question but to these friends an solution to a need.

One day closer on the journey toward Christmas.
