175 D113A Teachers, Staff Members Receive COVID-19 Vaccine

Those who participated received their first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.

LEMONT, IL — 175 teachers and staff members from District 113A received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday after a vaccination clinic at Old Quarry Middle School. The clinic came about as a result of a partnership with Jewel Osco, Superintendent Anthony McConnell said.

Those who participated received their first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. McConnell said Jewel will come back in 28 days for the second dose.

First grade special education teacher Kelly Taylor was the first staff member at the clinic to receive her shot.

"It's truly exciting," Taylor said. "It's the next step to move forward from this pandemic."

Teachers and staff members sat and received their shots in spaced desks in the gym, and then were observed for 15 minutes to ensure no immediate effects from the vaccine.

District 113A students are currently doing hybrid learning, but the district plans to return to full in-person learning next month.
