On the 8th day before Christmas I'm listing 8 things I could use for the Christmas Dinner Deliveries.

On Christmas Day friends of Hope and Friendship Foundation will gather to assemble and deliver fully cooked Christmas Dinners.

Many of have been asking me what could be offered to the Hope and Friendship Christmas Dinners to help make it the best Christmas Dinner ever!!

Here are 8 suggestions for what you might want to offer to help round out the gift of Christmas Dinner for those we are visiting on Christmas Day:

1) Desserts. I know I should save desserts for last but think about it. We are delivering Christmas Dinners to friends who are experiencing financial, physical or emotional storms. What better lifts one’s spirit and puts a smile on one’s face then dessert???

2) Side dishes. Any and all type: Stuffing, Cranberry Sauce, pasta or rice dishes, etc. (Please offer any and all dishes in portions for 4 persons in a disposable/reusable container, to assist us in meeting varying household sizes.)

3) Veggie Dishes. Plain veggies, or dress them up and make them eatable to even the most veggie-leery. (Please offer any and all dishes in portions for 4 persons in a disposable/reusable container, to assist us in meeting varying household sizes.)

4) Rolls/Butter.

5) Potato dishes. Sweet, White, Mashed, Boiled, Baked, etc. (Please offer any and all dishes in portions for 4 persons in a disposable/reusable container, to assist us in meeting varying household sizes.)

6) Plastic Ziploc, reusable containers, tin foil/tins, ziploc bags, etc.. We will have to break down some of the larger portions to help make sure that all of the homes we visit have plenty of food for those who will be pulling up to the table.

7) Chinet Plates and Napkins. Let’s face it who doesn’t fill their plate more on Christmas than the day before or day after? Putting the sturdiest of foundations under all of these goodies, and one that doesn’t have to be washed, is a gift in itself!

8) Most importantly to make this the gift that I hope for it to be: a meal that nourishes the body and spirit, we need to assemble each and every one of these dinners with unconditional compassion, wrap each of the dishes with understanding that not every home is equal in it’s blessings or it’s trials, and deliver each of these specially prepared Christmas Dinners with arms extended from a friend who has the desire to give the beauty of the true engagement of Christmas Spirit to a friend who needs to feel that love, hope and peace.

All food to be offer to the Hope and Friendship Christmas Dinner Delivery can be delivered on Christmas Day between 11am-1:30pm to the Lemont Township Office (1115 Warner Ave, behind Chipain’s).

If you would like to help with assembling the dinners arrive at 1:30, if you would like to assist with delivering them arrive at 3pm.

Thank you for helping to create and offer this gift for the 11th consecutive year. I am humbled to walk with you in this most beautiful corner of the world.

One day closer on the journey toward Christmas.
