District 113A Referendum

Lemont voters will decide on increasing the limiting rate from District 113A. The exact question voters will see is:

"Shall the limiting rate under the Property Tax Extension Limitation Law for Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District Number 113A, Cook and DuPage Counties, Illinois, be increased by an additional amount equal to 0.360000% above the limiting rate for levy year 2024 for the purpose of providing educational programming and instruction and operating, maintaining, improving and constructing school buildings and facilities and for other school purposes, and be equal to 2.320037% of the equalized assessed value of the taxable property therein for levy year 2026?"

Patch spoke to Superintendent Courtney Orzel last month for a Q&A on the referendum, which would fund expansions at all four of the District's schools.

According to the District, the referendum is intended to address enrollment growth that has exceeded expectations.

The limited rate tax increase would provide $6 million annually in additional revenues, and the estimated impact to the average homeowner would be $480 to $550 per year, according to the District.

11th Congressional District

Incumbent Democrat Bill Foster will face Republican Jeff Walter.

Foster has represented the 11th District since 2013. In the 118th Congress, Foster returned to the House Financial Services Committee, was appointed to the Speakers' Artificial Intelligence Task Force, and continued as the Democratic co-chair of the House Research and Redevelopment Caucus, the National Laboratories Caucus and the Inventions Caucus. Before his career in politics, Foster previously worked as a physicist at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory.

Walter is a retired U.S. Navy Master Chief Petty Officer, businessman and current Mayor of Elburn. "Jeff trusts President Trump—who already delivered one of the greatest economies in history—to do it again, and he supports Trump's America First economic plan, including tariffs that protect American workers," his website states.

Cook County Races

Countywide contests include:

Voters residing in communities served by Moraine Valley Community College will be asked to vote yes or no to a $115 million bond referendum that will enable the college to add a building to the Palos Hills campus to accommodate the continuing growth of its career-ready programs:
"Shall Moraine Valley Community College District No. 524, County of Cook and State of Illinois, build, equip, renovate, and repair buildings of the District for programs including but not limited to: automation and engineering technology, fire science, emergency medical services, automotive, HVAC/refrigeration, and welding, and issue its bonds to the amount of $115,000,000 for the purpose of paying the costs thereof?"

Cook County voters will also be asked to vote on an advisory question whether the state should adopt a "Millionaire Amendment," which would add a 3 percent income tax surcharge on millionaires and use 50 percent of the revenue to provide property tax relief, and 50 percent to improve state funding for public education.
