Bat With Rabies Found In Lemont

The bat was found Tuesday in the 12900 block of Archer Avenue.

LEMONT, IL — A rabid bat was found Tuesday in Lemont, according to the Village. The bat was found in the 12900 block of Archer Avenue on Tuesday, and was submitted for rabies examination.

The bat was determined to be rabid by the Illinois State Public Health Laboratory, the Village shared on its Facebook page.

If you were exposed or bitten by a bat, you should contact your doctor.

All residents should keep their dogs, cats and ferrets on a leash when out of their homes, the Village said. If your animal does not have a current rabies vaccination, have the pet immediately inoculated with rabies vaccine.

Residents are advised not to handle any bats, skunks or other wild animals. If any bats or skunks are found down or dead on your property or roadway, you can call the Cook County Department of Animal Control at 708-974-6140.
