Chicago Blaze Academy Wins Rugby Illinois Championship, Men's Club Host Firehouse 7s June 3, New Coach Search for Fall

The Chicago Blaze Rugby Club is proud to announce in their third campaign the Chicago Blaze Rugby Academy captured the Division 3 Rugby Illinois Title on Memorial Day.

The Academy defeated the Chillicothe All Reds 56-12 at the State Championship held at Morton West High School, after taking a 56-0 lead the gents gave up two late tries. "After finishing 2nd in our inaugural season and 3rd last year, this one is a great reward for the boys who played their hearts out," Coach Jason Brusa said.

The Blaze men's club is proud of the season the Academy had. We will be displaying the Academy's Championship trophy on June 3rd at our Firehouse 7s Tournament which features Men's Premier, Men's Open and Women's Divisions.

We welcome the community to come out to watch the Olympic's newest and most thrilling sport at our facility this Saturday, 13011 Smith Rd. Lemont, Il. Matches will be played from 11-6pm.
As we are happy to be once again coached in 7s by Simon Smith from Yorkshire England, this summer will be his last with the Blaze.

As the Fall 15s season is approaching we have started our search for a permanent Coach to lead us to our goals of winning, locally and on the national levels. We are a diverse club with many talented players and the facilities like no other in the Midwest. "We're looking for an experienced leader of men that can lead us to a national championship," Michael Zdenovec, President of the Chicago Blaze Rugby Club mentioned to me.
As one of the top two fastest growing sports in America, it was great to see all the teams participate on Memorial Day and we are looking forward in the future of Rugby in Lemont and Chicagoland for years to come.

Any interested players are encouraged to join us, we train on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm through out the Fall. Sevens training has started and will run through July, Practice for 15s begins in August.
