Courts, Fields Reopening; Playgrounds, CORE Remain Closed

Lemont Park District gives an update on what's reopening, what's still closed and the status on some programs.

LEMONT, IL — As Lemont and the rest of the state move into phase 3 of the Restore Illinois plan on Friday, the Lemont Park District has some operations updates, including what is reopening, what is remaining closed, and the status on some different programs and events.

What will be open:

  • The park district is reopening tennis, pickleball, volleyball and basketball courts on Friday. Users must maintain social distancing, no gatherings of more than 10, and users should wash their hands thoroughly and face coverings are encouraged.
  • Open space and trails are open.
  • Sports fields reopen May 29 for 10 people or less practicing social distancing. Sports leagues or user groups must reserve the fields through the park district before use.
  • Outdoor fitness classes will be available to all CORE members and seniors starting June 1.

What remains closed:

  • All playgrounds remain closed at this time.
  • The CORE facility remains closed, as health and fitness centers are not permitted to open in phase 3.
  • The Centennial Outdoor Aquatic Center remains closed. The park district hopes to open the pool later this summer if state orders permit.

Program status:

  • The park district is planning drive-movie events to start in June.
  • The Sky High Freedom Kite Fly is scheduled for June 29 at the Centennial Campus.
  • Bubble Fest is planned for Aug. 18 at Brown Park.
  • Sunset Soiree Concerts have been postponed at this time.
  • The Independence Day Extravaganza and fireworks show has been canceled. The park district is planning America's Birthday Parade on July 3.
