Community Corner

The Day the Turkeys Fly 2020 has flown but the gratitude remains.

Hope and Friendship Foundation volunteers, donors, and board members united for the 15th Thanksgiving Outreach serving Lemont residents.

Hope and Friendship coordinated deliveries of Thanksgiving assistance in Lemont last week. More than 170 homes were visited and gifted food relief. The founder expressed a thank you to everyone that made possible the largest Thanksgiving outreach in Lemont.

Dear friend,

I am so very grateful for your assistance in making this past Thanksgiving the best Hope and Friendship Thanksgiving Outreach EVER!!

Without you offering your time, effort and compassion to show up, to do whatever it took, and to arrive at the more than 170 doors that we did, we would not have been able to impact this corner of the world as we did last week. The thank you's are beautiful and so heartfelt and they all acknowledge that it took at team, an army and I refer to that as my "army of walking angels".

Thank you my friend for being the hands, feet and hearts that brought love, light, hope and food to so many struggling right here within our arm's reach.

The “Hope and Friendship Foundation Thanksgiving Outreach 2020” offered hope that there is much good to come from this unbelievably difficult and stressful year of adjusting and adapting to the unknown.

The past few years we have assisted about 80 homes with Thanksgiving assistance, this year we arrived at the door of more than 170 homes with a variation of help ranging from a frozen turkey, to a full Jewel Turkey dinner with sides, to a gift card, to a fully cooked dinner plate of meat, sides, and even a slice of pie from Tap House Grill. We assisted every single senior that lives in Grace View Apartments (our low income senior housing). We arrived at the doors of friends who are experiencing unemployment, or underemployment that has caused financial pressures from this “pandemic”. We arrived at doors of friends who are struggling to adjust to the loss of a loved one, or the battle for life of one of their loved ones within that home. We arrived with love, light and hope for better tomorrows by offering to fill their bellies and hearts, and lift their spirits. The “thank you’s” began pouring in as soon as the first round of deliveries went out on Saturday November 21st, and continued through our deliveries to seniors on Wednesday November 25th, still coming in through Thanksgiving Day while people were preparing the food that was offered with unconditional friendship and grace from so many.

Thank you for helping to make this my most memorable Thanksgiving ever and help put this Hope and Friendship Thanksgiving Outreach in the books with the word “SUCCESS” written in bold next to it. I’ve already turned the corner and been working hard on organizing the names and items needed for the 16th Hope and Friendship Christmas Care Bag and Dinner Delivery, but I didn’t want another day to go by without taking a moment to offer my thanks for you.

I have been blessed to be a conduit of assistance and to see the glow around this town that comes from acts of compassion that unite many to meet many needs.
