Freezing Rain, Snow Could Impact Tuesday Evening Commute In IL
Another winter weather advisory, this time warning of freezing rain and ice, is in effect in the Chicago area.

Yet another winter weather system is expected to hit the area on Tuesday. A winter weather advisory is in effect for McHenry, Lake, Kane, DuPage, Cook, Kendall, Grundy, Will and Kankakee counties. The National Weather Service said a wintry mix will spread over portions of northern Illinois on Tuesday morning and continue into the afternoon. The advisory expires at 9 p.m. in several counties including Kendall and Will; at midnight in Cook, DuPage and Kane counties; and at noon Wednesday in counties including Lake, McHenry,
Freezing rain and drizzle are the primary concerns with this storm and light ice accumulations on untreated and elevated surfaces are expected, the NWS said. Precipitation may mix with snow and sleet at times.

Total snow accumulations of up to three inches are expected for areas north of Chicago and less snow further south. Thee Rockford area could see up to 6 inches. Ice accumulations of more than one-tenth of an inch are expected for much of the area, according to the NWS. The winter weather could impact the Tuesday evening commute, and you should plan on slippery road conditions.

Temperatures are expected to gradually warm above freezing through the afternoon Tuesday, at which point precipitation will transition over to rain.
