100-Degree Heat Index, Hot And Humid Week For IL

Temperatures will near 90 degrees all week, with scattered storms possible each day. Here's how to stay safe in the extreme heat.

ILLINOIS — A hot and humid week is ahead for the Chicago area. According to the National Weather Service, heat indices will be between 95 and 100 degrees Monday. Scattered storms are also possible Monday with gusty winds.

The rest of the week will also be hot and humid with a high of 89 degrees on both Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the weather service. Thursday will have a high of 91 degrees, and Friday will be near 90.

The NWS urges residents to limit strenuous outdoor activities and to minimize sun exposure. You should stay hydrated with frequent breaks in air conditioning.

To keep yourself safe in extreme heat, ready.gov advises:

  • Find air conditioning.
  • Avoid strenuous activities.
  • Watch for heat illness.
  • Wear light clothing.
  • Check on family members and neighbors.
  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • Watch for heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
  • Never leave people or pets in a closed car.

Scattered storms are also possible Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
