'The History Of Motown' Planned At Lemont Library

Using audio and visual content, Gary Wenstrup will trace the amazing musical journey of Motown Records.

LEMONT, IL — Learn more about the history of Motown Records with a Feb. 5 program at the Lemont Public Library. Educator Gary Wenstrup will host the program, and share the history of Motown Records, which produced several popular hits in the 1960s.

Using audio and visual content, Wenstrup will trace the amazing musical journey from the power soul of “Dancing in The Streets” and “I Heard It Through the Grapevine,” to the psychedelic soul of “Cloud Nine” and “What’s Going On,” to the pop soul of The Jackson 5, according to the library.

After a rewarding career in advertising sales, Gary Wenstrup retired and developed courses on the Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, and Motown Records for the Continuing Education Department of College of DuPage.

Gary has also lectured at more than 200 libraries on 20 different music-related subjects, including artists from Elvis Presley to Fleetwood Mac and The Rolling Stones to Willie Nelson. According to the Library, Gary’s Beatles presentation was deemed “The Best of The Best” by the Library Administrators Conference of Northern Illinois (LACONI). Gary is also a co-host of the popular podcast Classic Rock Album Olympics.
