Dear Friend,

I appreciate your interest in applying for the 2020 Hope and Friendship Foundation Scholarship. Once again this year the Hope and Friendship Foundation board approved two separate scholarships to be awarded: one for $1000 and one for $500. You can enter this competition by submitting the following completed application with references and completed activities and experiences on a separate paper, and your original essay by Friday April 3rd 2020.

Hope and Friendship Foundation sets forth with the mission to reach out and find assistance for those in financial, emotional, and physical crisis. Though we can not always provide immediate financial sources or answers that will resolve the problems, our mission is to extend a hand of friendship to reassure that “someone” is aware of their struggles- cares to be an ear and works to provide any means of aid possible- driven by the ultimate goal of being a conduit from those that have to those that need.

Since December 2005, Hope and Friendship has been an effective conduit of assistance and, simply stated, surplus from one home to another. Whether it be a kind action, council, meals, redistributing used household appliances, furniture, or belongings (from households that have to households that are in need of these items), or in some cases rallying a call/email of need to raise funds or accept donations to provide crisis assistance to help to cover a cost that otherwise can not be covered.

A friend is someone who reaches for your hand and touches your heart. Though Hope and Friendship cannot provide everything of need for those households that experience such strain, it is the goal to try to provide opportunities for them to benefit from the kindness and generosity offered from their “friends and neighbors” around them casting ripples of compassion and benevolence that reach further than the initial act of kindness. www.hopeandfriendshipfoundation.com

The "heart" of the application is in offering your opinion on the following:

Please communicate THREE ideas (approx. 100 words each) that focus on the following quote and call for action (10 points each; grammar, sentence structure; and understandable/readable writing does matter):

“Be the change that you wish to see in the world."

~ Mahatma Gandhi

1) What is the change you would like to see here in our Lemont community?

2) Why would you make that change (be specific)?

3) How would you hope that change impacts our community?

What I hope you will help contribute is your idea on how to better our corner of the world. I look forward to reading your completed entry!

Visit www.hopeandfriendshipfoundatio... to access application and information on applying, or email info@hopeandfriendshipfoundation.com to receive the application via email.

Your entry must be submitted by midnight Friday April 3rd via mail, email or dropping it off to 721 Hickory St, Lemont to be considered for this scholarship competition. Our Scholarship selection team will review your application and essay and select the winning entries from those submitted. I appreciate you offering your time, effort and heart to this scholarship competition.

Wishing you peace,

Terri O’Neill-Borders
