LEMONT, IL — If you're looking for a winter activity, The Forge: Lemont Quarries' Ice Skating Shelf is now open. You can lace up your skates or rent a pair, and reservations are required to skate.

It is $10 per person for a 40-minute skate, and there is a 20-person maximum per session. Open skate is Thursday through Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m., and there are also hours available for private rentals of the skating shelf.

"We initially identified the location for the rink, on prime land next to our grab and go dining spot, The Foundry. We then worked with our landscape partner, Atrium, to level the ground to accommodate the ice rink," Co-founder Bart Loethen said. "Once the land and structure was ready, water was added and frozen approximately 1 inch at a time to create a sturdy, smooth skating surface. The Ice Skating Shelf will be open through the winter season, weather permitting. We plan to bring the rink back for locals and beyond to enjoy for winters to come."
