Illinois American Water Presents “Cutaway Hydrant” to Lemont Fire Department
Illinois American Water has donated a "Cutaway Hydrant" to the Lemont Fire Department.

In support of learning and development, Illinois American Water
has donated a “Cutaway Hydrant” to the Lemont Fire Department. A cutaway hydrant is an exact
replica of a working hydrant, only it is cut in half to show the inner-workings of the unit. The donation of
the hydrant will allow training officers and fire personnel to enhance team members’ understanding on
the operations of fire hydrants for training purposes. In addition, it will be on display during tours of the
fire district.
“These cutaway hydrants can be valuable for helping raise public awareness of both water system
operations and fire department emergency operations when combating fire events,” said Richard
Hermann, Senior Manager of Field Services and Production for the Chicago Metro IAW District.
“Partnerships with our local fire districts and departments is essential towards ensuring a team
approach in providing public safety and fire protection in the community,” added Hermann.
Frank Jareczek, Administrative Battalion Chief of Lemont, thanked Illinois American Water during the
hydrant presentation. “The Cutaway Hydrant is a valuable tool both for the visitors who come to our
station and for our firefighters. It allows visitors and firefighters to see the inner workings of the
hydrants that they see out on the streets of Lemont. We are grateful that Illinois American Water has
chosen us to receive this fantastic piece of related material. It will become an asset to the station and
our personnel and will be used for training purposes and public education for years to come,” stated
Jareczek.
