Lemont Approves Annexation, Preliminary Plans For New Fire Station

Plans call for the construction of a 32,000-square-foot fire station at 127th Street and Walter Street.

LEMONT, IL — At its Monday meeting, the Lemont Village Board approved the annexation of property on 127th Street for a proposed fire station for the Lemont Fire Protection District, rezoning for the property, and granted a special use for a preliminary planned unit development and plat for the new station.

The fire district requested annexation of property at 15723, 15757 and 15783 W. 127th St. The property is four parcels totaling about 3.68 acres at the northeast corner of 127th and Walter streets, according to Board documents.

Economic and Community Development Director Jason Berry said one of the properties is already in the Village, but there are two in unincorporated Lemont Township that must be annexed in.

The property will be zoned institutional, to accommodate construction of a proposed fire station no. 1, according to Board documents.

"The annexation agreement establishes the framework for development of the new fire station and addresses the continued residential use of the existing home located at 15723 West 127th Street until the current occupant vacates the property," Board documents state.

The Board also approved a special use for a preliminary planned unit development for the new station.

"This is the final step in their preliminary planned unit development," Berry said.

"If approved, we'll continue working with the fire district on what's called the final planned unit development which would come at a future meeting," Berry added.

According to Board documents, plans call for the construction of a 32,000-square-foot fire station. There will be three apparatus bays facing 127th Street.
