LEMONT, IL — During the 2017 MDA Fill the Boot campaign, members of the Romeoville Fire Department, Lockport Fire Protection District, Lemont Fire Protection District, and CITGO Lemont Refinery Fire Department took to the streets to help kids and adults with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related life-threatening diseases. According to a release, the departments campaigned on Sept. 7 and 8 and raised $7,209.
“Firefighters from the Romeoville Fire Department, Lockport Fire Protection District, Lemont Fire Protection District, and CITGO Lemont Refinery have once again shown their immense dedication and care for MDA’s families during this year’s Fill the Boot campaign,” Senior Fundraising Coordinator, Kelsey Tomko said in a release. “This year’s Fill the Boot was a success and we are grateful for the generosity of those in the community who have helped individuals with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle-debilitating diseases truly live unlimited.”
According to the release, firefighters have taken part in MDA’s Fill the Boot tradition for more than 60 years.
Funds raised help MDA’s efforts to fund groundbreaking research and life-enhancing programs such as state-of-the-art support groups and Care Centers, including the MDA Care Centers at Lurie Children’s Hospital, Shriners Hospital for Children, Rush University Medical Center, University of Illinois at Chicago, and Northwestern Medical in Chicago.
