Lemont Man, 25, Fatally Struck by Freight Train

A Lemont man died early Thursday after being struck by a freight train in downtown Lemont.

Kevin Collins, 25, was hit by a westbound Union Pacific CSX freight train on the railroad tracks at Lemont and Main streets around midnight on Thursday.

Witnesses told Lemont Police that a male pedestrian was attempting to run south across the tracks at the time of the accident. The gates were down, flashing lights were working, and the train horn was sounding, according to reports.

Lemont detectives have determined that the incident was an accident and no foul play was involved. Detectives continue to investigate the circumstance surrounding the crash.
