Lemont Man Wins $50,000 in Powerball

He bought his ticket at the 143rd Street Speedway in Homer Glen. He was just one number off the $900 million prize.

LEMONT, IL— “I was one tiny number away from winning the $900,000,000 jackpot that night! But winning any prize is awesome, I’m happy,” Steve Leibforth said after winning a $50,000 Powerball prize.

The lucky Lemont resident’s Quick Pick ticket matched four numbers, plus the Powerball number, in the Saturday, Jan. 9 Powerball drawing. The winning numbers were – 16 – 19 – 32 – 34 – 57 – and the Powerball number was 13.

Leibforth has lived in Lemont for 16 years. His three children are currently in college and he plans to use his Powerball winnings to help them with expenses.

The winning ticket was purchased at Speedway, 15551 West 143rd Street in Homer Glen.

“I was at the same Speedway when I checked my ticket and discovered my win. The clerks and I couldn’t believe it!” The retailer received a bonus of $500, or 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling a winning ticket.
